The tech world is constantly pushing the limits of innovation, problem solving, and product development. This week we brought in the CEO of Bebo, Shaan Puri, to explain some of these systems and how we can all use them to become more effective learners. Question hotline: 805-635-8459
Key Points
The 80/20 Rule
20% of inputs usually cause 80% of the outcomes. In the tech world they use this ratio to focus on the essential features of the product first. In learning we can use this to focus on the most high impact skills or to hone in on the core of a project, to make sure we invest our time there.
The 5 Whys
Asking why 5 times helps get to the root cause of a problem. It’s usually best to fix the root cause than to just patch up the symptom. This is true for both startups and learning.
Test Assumptions Before You Build
Before investing a lot of time and money into something – it’s smart to test your riskiest assumptions first. Build, measure, learn. By iterating and getting feedback, we learn more, and end up building a better product.
Practice is Better than Planning
Once we have a general idea of what we want to do, getting the reps is more valuable than endless planning.
