Boomer, Gen X, Millennial – we use these labels all the time, but there’s two problems:
1. There’s no scientific support for real generational differences
2. Using the labels actually causes a bunch of problems, especially for learning & development
RETHINKING GENERATIONAL LABELS
– the limits of traditional generational research
– the problems that the perceived generational differences/ labels cause
– a better way to think about group differences

Dr. Costanza is a member of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the Academy of Management. He has worked with public, private, and governmental organizations on projects related to leadership, change, and culture as well as research methods and statistics. He has been published in Slate and interviewed by the Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Financial Times, Bloomberg, ESPN, and Yahoo!Finance.
Cort Rudolph:
Cort is an Industrial and Organizational Psychologist and Professor of Psychology at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.
He specializes in conducting quantitative research, especially focusing on longitudinal methodologies and meta-analysis. Through his work, he strives for the promotion of open science practices.
His research focuses broadly on topics ranging from aging workers and lifespan development, to occupational health, employee wellbeing, environmental sustainability, and leadership.
